The person who fights with himself to rectify his own missteps never loses in life. - Basant Chaudhary
In the midst of Nepal’s tumultuous 10-year civil war (1996-2006), the nation bore witness to a dark and painful chapter marked by regular violence, riots, and shootings. Markets, businesses, and transportation ground to a halt because of forcible ‘bandhas’. Thousands lost their lives, and many more disappeared. The ceaseless media reporting of the horror added to the people’s grief.
Utterly distraught, Basant Chaudhary penned ‘Shanti Lukau Kahan’, wondering where he could hide peace safely in Nepal. The song has come to be viewed as the country’s peace anthem.
Basant Chaudhary, appointed by Queen Aishwarya in 2000, served as the Member Secretary of the Pashupati Area Development Trust. Given executive authority by King Gyanendra, he considered this project highly fulfilling. During his tenure, he improved the shrine's beauty and cleanliness, attracting religious tourism. The Trust removed illegal structures, regained encroached lands, and developed new infrastructure. Chaudhary initiated e-Puja, an online portal for remote prayers, resonating with global Hindus. His remarkable achievements are featured in the documentary "Reviving our Spirituality."

I found her very humble and down to earth, it felt like we’ve been working together for years. Her determination towards her work made this project even more interesting. I’m very thankful to Mr. Basant Chaudhary for giving me this beautiful lyrics and for making this possible.
